 Family Zmuda and Charlie “Edward”

Family Zmuda writes:

Shortly after our marriage we were already thinking about completing our family with a new four-legged member. We are a young, still childless couple that knows already the one of the other breed. Now the search for a suitable companion started.

The memories of the puppy-behaviour of the danes of my parents and the adult size of this breed  brang us to the decision that this breed is not the right one for us. "We like more driving with a PKW instead of a LKW" we were thinking. My wife had some experiences with the Beagle of her family and who produced some sleepless nights for two years and who still loves to chase and eat all eatable and not eatable things in his area without being tired of it.

„We have learned!“ was our conclusion. We didn't want neighter a smart giant nor a pigheaded hunter. We wanted a dog that was small enough for being able to compain us in in plane but big enough for doing longer walks in the mountains. The new dogs mustn't be dominant but friendly to childs, intelligent, easy to teach and first of all not a toy !

„What breed would be this perfect little dog?“ After longer research we found that breed: a Cavalier bitch !

We found the Bonitos Companeros and after a phone call we decided to meet each other.

Before our first visit in Erdingen we were full of excitement and happy to meet the magical Cavalier. Then the moment was come. In a friendly atmosphere we saw the first Cavalier puppies presented by Mr. Kirschbaum. We noticed their great qualities at once: loving, alert, happy and obedient. But there was something else. Mr. Kirschbaum shortly stopped the presentation and brought a little Charlie male into the room. And there he was: Mr. Charming! A small white spot, full of intelligence, with the same ingenuity and the spirit of an adult. We were surprised and - while Mr. Charlie lay on the lab of my wife on her lap quietly and patiently listened to me - we informed us a bit more about the uo to this date unknown breed.

Mr. Charming had enchanted us! We went back to Cologne with mixed feelings - without a cavalier puppy in our car.

At the second visit it was time for a decision. But actually it was made already a lot sooner. The longer we were together with Mr. Charming, the more he confirmed us in our feelings and attitude towards him. By his royal presence, the extremely empathetic and sensitive nature, the cognitive superiority over other puppies, and the incomparably intense contact with us, there was really nothing more to decide. Mr. Charming changed in our hearts to "Edward I" and left  every Cavalier puppy behind.

Up to date we have not regretted the decision. Edward convinces us again and again not only by its typical Charlie-character, but also by his extraordinary behavior: after two weeks he was housetrained, knows how to "sit", "stop" and "Stay", with and without a leash, was asleep (in our bed) through the night, ten hours, had no problems with city noise was socialized with other dogs, went without problems with the car and escorted me to the office! ... Well, let's wait how it continues ...:-)
